We had a great first week of school. It is such a pleasure to have each child in my class. They are all so wonderful and I'm looking forward to spending this year with them.
The majority of the week was focused on building class community. We had several wonderful conversations about what we want our classroom to look like and how we will treat each other. We also began reading the book Wonder by R. J. Palocio. It is a wonderful book about a child with special needs' experience in school for the first time. I hope that reading this book will strengthen our classroom community and teach us all how to be more empathetic to the people around us.
We began our first unit on place value in math and I was very pleased with how involved all the students were in our lessons. We will continue talking about place value and move on to rounding and comparing numbers in the next week.
Next week, we will begin our first science unit- the history of the Earth. I know many of your children are very excited to finally be starting science! We will be going to the science lab with Ms. T on Tuesday afternoons throughout the year.

Yesterday, your child should have brought home a yellow folder with forms for you to look at. Please take time to look through the information and then return the folder on Monday. Particularly those of you who pick up your children in the car pool line, starting Tuesday there will be a new procedure.
