We had an awesome week full of creative, hands on learning experiences.
On Wednesday, a friend of mine, Leslie Locklear, came and spoke to the 4th grade about her life as a member of the Lumbee tribe. She taught the kids all about the different styles of dances done by Native Americans. They were able to ask her a lot of questions about her life as a Native American and she was very impressed with their knowledge and deep questions.

On Thursday, we had a wonderful nutrition class. Students about the different foods in the grains group. They were challenged to find out if their grains at home are whole grains and to try to make half of their grains whole grains. They had the chance to make beet pancakes, which most of them really enjoyed. I will be sending home the recipes for the pancakes in their folders sometime next week.
And finally, today we celebrate Dias de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). We learned all about the traditions of the day and participated in a few of the special activities. We decorated sugar skulls and made paper flowers. We also celebrated our October birthdays.

Lastly, report cards will also come home on either Monday or Tuesday. Please be looking for those and return them as soon as possible.
